Altona Police Service has received several phone calls recently with respect to people receiving notice that their Social Insurance Number has been suspended due to “illegal Activity”.
The Police Service would like to remind people to simply hang up.
Do not call the number they ask you to call and do not provide them with any information. They will no doubt want your Social Insurance Number – do not provide it to them.
“It would appear that these fraudsters are hitting our area through a Robo-dialer,” police said. “This may go on for some time.”
If you receive a call and are uncertain, you may contact Service Canada with your concerns. Police also encourage anyone who receives this call to visit the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre Website and complete their report. Again simply hang up the phone. Do not give out any banking or personal information.
